Wildlife sanctuaries and independent rehabilitators across Ireland are operated almost entirely by dedicated volunteers. They rely heavily on public support, including donations, practical help, and volunteer time, to continue rescuing, rehabilitating, and releasing wildlife.
If you’d like to help, visit the contact listings on www.irishwildlifematters.ie to connect with a rehabilitator or sanctuary near you.

Share Practical Skills

You don’t need animal-handling experience to make a difference. Many sanctuaries urgently need practical skills such as:

  • Carpentry (aviaries, nest boxes, outdoor enclosures)

  • Electrical work (heating and lighting installations)

  • Computer skills (fundraising, admin, communication systems)

If you can offer any of these skills — even occasionally — reach out to your local sanctuary and let them know.

Offer a Wildlife Release Location

Do you live in a quiet countryside area? Rehabilitators often need safe release sites for recovered wildlife.
Ideal locations include:

  • Areas far from main or secondary roads

  • Land bordered by fields, woodland, or natural cover

  • Areas where hunting is prohibited

  • Sites near natural water sources such as rivers, lakes, or ponds

If you have suitable land and would like to support wildlife release efforts, local rehabilitators would love to hear from you.

Donate Supplies or Equipment

Sanctuaries constantly need everyday items to care for injured wildlife. Useful donations include:

  • Towels and blankets

  • Pet carriers

  • Disinfectants and cleaning supplies

  • Newspapers

  • Dog or cat food

  • Wet gear (for volunteers working outdoors)

These simple items make a huge difference and help sanctuaries redirect their limited funding toward treatment and specialist care.

Fundraise for Wildlife

Turn your idea into a fundraiser for Ireland’s wildlife.

Fundraising for Wildlife Rehabilitation Ireland can be as simple, creative, or ambitious as you like. Whether you’re planning a coffee morning, sponsored walk, workplace challenge, bake sale, raffle, quiz night, birthday fundraiser, school event, wildlife-themed talk, or community gathering, every event helps raise vital funds and awareness for Ireland’s wildlife.

You don’t need to be an expert, and your fundraiser doesn’t need to be perfect. The most important thing is bringing people together around a shared love of wildlife. A small event with friends, neighbours, classmates, colleagues, or your local community can make a real difference.

WRI can provide ideas, materials, and promotional support to help you get started. We’re always delighted to hear about creative fundraising plans, especially events that celebrate Irish wildlife, nature, biodiversity, and community action.

Every euro raised helps Wildlife Rehabilitation Ireland train more veterinary practitioners, support wildlife rehabilitators, improve public understanding of wildlife care, and progress the development of Ireland’s first permanent Wildlife Teaching Hospital.

So whether you’re baking badger cupcakes, walking for wildlife, hosting a hedgehog quiz, running a raffle, or turning your birthday into a fundraiser, we’d love to hear from you.

To tell us about your fundraising idea or ask for support, please contact enquiries@wri.ie

Shop to Support Wildlife

You can support Wildlife Rehabilitation Ireland through our online shop, or help wildlife more widely by shopping with Wild Wardrobe.

Wildlife Rehabilitation Ireland’s online shop is an easy way to support our work directly. Purchases from our shop, including wildlife adoptions and other items, help fund our education, outreach, training, resources, and wildlife welfare programmes.

Wild Wardrobe is a separate charity shop project that raises funds for wildlife rehabilitation by selling pre-loved clothing, accessories, and other donated items. Proceeds from Wild Wardrobe are shared with various wildlife rehabilitators and organisations, including Wildlife Rehabilitation Ireland.

Wild Wardrobe gives supporters a fun and sustainable way to help wildlife while giving good-quality items a second life. Outfits and items are shared regularly through Facebook and Instagram, and nationwide postage is available through An Post.

Donations of suitable pre-loved items are greatly appreciated. Drop-off points may be available, and more information can be requested by messaging Wild Wardrobe through Facebook and Instagram, or by emailing wwrnonprofit@gmail.com.

Whether you buy a wildlife adoption from WRI, pick up a pre-loved treasure from Wild Wardrobe, donate items, or share a post, you’re helping raise funds and awareness for wildlife rehabilitation in Ireland
